Life Coaching vs Counselling

Life Coaching vs Counselling   where are the boundaries?
Is Life Coaching the new Psychotherapy  or is it just being Positive?

Where exactly does Counselling end and Life Coaching begin?
When past issues are recognised... future issues can be embraced and the right  decisions made. A Counsellor and Life Coach can use their skills  in helping clients move from negative influences in their past life, beginning their journey into the future with renewed hope and energy and a clear plan of where they want to go and how they are going to get there.
So... the difference is?
There are so many overlaps and commonalities we can think of them as a toolbox of skills which help a person discover how to move from where they are to where they would like to be... so what has been said so far is only one opinion.
A more hard line opinion I have heard is...
                                                  Counselling is looking back and Coaching is looking forward
...but unfortunately there are no blacks and whites.
Unlike say a Maths Teacher who knows that 2+2 is always equal to 4, sadly we have no such luxuries.

Some interesting comments from counsellors who now also work as Life Coaches could be quite revealing;

...the relationship is more of a partnership, more relaxed, more humour, more self disclosure and being actively engaged while working together...

...you can say "Hi" at the garage or the shops, you can expect more from your client, "coaching is not such a tender business as therapy was"...

...you can be much more flexible in working together, using the telephone, e-mail even meeting over lunch maybe an hour or sometimes meet just for 5 minutes...
